Coffee brewing methods
Coffee brewing methods differ in how water contacts coffee, how the brew is filtered and how much control the brewer has over variables.
Pressure methods
Espresso uses pressurised water through a compact coffee bed. Moka pots use pressure generated by heating water in a stovetop vessel, but at a different pressure and with a different brewing design.
Immersion methods
French press and cold brew keep coffee grounds in contact with water for an extended period. AeroPress can use an immersion stage followed by pressure-assisted filtration.
Percolation methods
Filter and pour-over brewing allow water to pass through a coffee bed under gravity. Paper filtration can produce a relatively clean beverage.
