1600s–1700s
Coffeehouses spread through parts of the Middle East and Europe, while coffee cultivation expanded through colonial and commercial networks.
1800s
Industrial roasting and brewing technologies expanded. Espresso-machine development began, and coffee became increasingly integrated into global commodity systems.
1900s
Instant coffee, domestic electric brewers, mass-market roasting and new packaging technologies transformed consumption.
2000s–today
Specialty coffee, traceability, advanced processing, precision roasting, modern espresso technology and digital coffee education have expanded alongside mainstream coffee markets.
